Shortest Verse-John 11:35
The Old Testament has 39 books, 5 sections, and over 30 authors. The 5 books of law are: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. There are 12 books of history and 5 books of poetry and wisdom. The 5 major prophets are: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel. The 12 minor prophets are: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. The "major" and "minor" labels do not
really imply that one set of prophets are more important than the other.
Length is the main determining factor when deciding whether a prophet
is major or minor.
The New Testament has 27 books, 5 sections, and at least 9 authors. The gospels are: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There is one book of history (Acts), 13 books of Paul's letters (Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Tiitus, and Philemon), 8 other letters (Hebrews, James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2, 3 John, Jude, and 1 book of prophecy (Revelation).
