This year we will be reading the Bible chronologically (NLT version)!
Bible Facts:
Oldest Book-Job
Last Book Written-Revelation
Largest Book-Psalms
Smallest Book-2 John
Longest Verse-Esther 8:9
Shortest Verse-John 11:35
The Old Testament has 39 books, 5 sections, and over 30 authors. The 5 books of law are: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. There are 12 books of history and 5 books of poetry and wisdom. The 5 major prophets are: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel. The 12 minor prophets are: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. The "major" and "minor" labels do not
really imply that one set of prophets are more important than the other.
Length is the main determining factor when deciding whether a prophet
is major or minor.
The New Testament has 27 books, 5 sections, and at least 9 authors. The gospels are: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There is one book of history (Acts), 13 books of Paul's letters (Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Tiitus, and Philemon), 8 other letters (Hebrews, James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2, 3 John, Jude, and 1 book of prophecy (Revelation).

Merry CHRISTmas
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in
swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room
for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

2 Corinthians 10
Paul
had a difficult time earning the respect of the Corinthians. The false apostles
were doing everything they could to discredit his work. Paul very calmly tries to explain his
relationship with Christ and the authority he has been given as a true apostle.
He also refuses to follow the rules set by the false apostles.
2 Corinthians 11
In
this chapter Paul continues to voice his unhappiness with the false apostles,
who spent a lot of time trying to discredit his message and ruin his
reputation. He was also upset that he had spent too much time trying to undo
the damage they had caused among the Corinthians. He points out he preaches and
teaches without being paid for his services and he is more qualified than the
false prophets.
2
Corinthians 12
Paul
humbly points out all that God has done for him as proof of his qualifications.
He blames the Corinthians for their own problems since some of them had been involved
in gossip and other sins and had not repented.
2
Corinthians 13
In
the conclusion of this epistle (letter), Paul threatens severe punishment for
sinners and then he prays to God on behalf of the Corinthians.

2 Corinthians 7
Paul’s letter to the Corinthians had made them sad, but
their sorrow led to repentance.
2 Corinthians 8
Paul used the Macedonian Christians as an example in his
writing because even though they were suffering affliction and in deep poverty they
gave generously. The Macedonians gave willingly
and cheerfully gave what they could.
2 Corinthians 9

2 Corinthians 4
Paul teaches that by accepting Christ,
we receive a treasure, the knowledge of the glory of God. This knowledge has
been granted to us through Christ for God’s glory, that we may proclaim it to
all peoples. Paul also wants us to understand that
there will be pain and suffering in their lives here on earth, but they can
persevere through believing in Christ and having confidence in the promise of
the resurrection, eternity with Christ.
2 Corinthians 5
In Christ we are a new creation! Our relationship with Christ gives us a brand
new life. Once we receive the treasure
of Christ and our life becomes brand new, we become coworkers with and for
Christ. Works are not necessary for
salvation but the new you will certainly want to do all you can to share the
gospel (good news)!
2 Corinthians 6
Paul lists the difficulties he’s had to remind the Corinthians
that he always tried to live in a way that would honor God, no matter how
difficult things got. Paul endured many
hardships as God’s servant unlike the false teachers who wanted comfort and
personal gain. He also urged the
Corinthians to avoid the teachings of false teachers because they were
spreading Satan’s message.
November 26th
November 26 |
The apostle (teacher spreading the gospel after Jesus’ death
and resurrection) Paul wrote the epistle (letter) 2 Corinthians about 56
A.D. This letter was written to explain the
struggle Paul was having with the church of Corinth that he founded around 50
A.D. The church had rejected him and his
teachings. It seems while he was a great
writer, he was not a very charismatic speaker.
2 Corinthians 1
False teachers at the church of Corinth were challenging
Paul’s teachings and questioning his character. Paul writes about his suffering
and felt as though he would die but God saved him. This was a reminder to Paul to rely on God
for all things no matter the circumstance.
2 Corinthians 2
Paul discusses the importance of the church forgiving and
standing by church members committing and expressing remorse for sin.
2 Corinthians 3
In this chapter, Paul’s teachings are questioned by false
teachers producing documents to try to establish that they were the true
teachers. Paul stated the believers he
had taught were the only proof he needed.
By the end of this chapter he reminds us our belief in the Lord is our
freedom!

November 25th
November 25 |
Paul wrote this epistle or letter around AD
53–54 in response to conflicts within the church at Corinth.
1 Corinthians 13
Paul begins this chapter stating ‘without love we are
nothing’. Love is patient and kind;
love is not jealous, it does not boast, it’s not rude. If we truly love, just as God loves us, we
care for others, forgive, and are happy for the good fortunes of others. Just as the chapter began, he concludes with:
‘the greatest of these is love’!
1 Corinthians 14
Paul explains, in this chapter, ‘follow
the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy’—a
continuation of the spiritual gifts previously discussed. He emphasizes the importance of speaking in
tongues as communication with God but equally important is the ability to
translate to men through preaching/teaching.
The importance of this preaching/teaching gift should be to build up fellow Christians
not for building up ourselves!
1 Corinthians 15
Paul uses this chapter as a reminder of
the gospel or good news of Jesus Christ.
He admits that his life prior to becoming a believer caused him to
believe he was not worthy of being
called an apostle and definitely not worthy of God’s grace. He states he is the least of the
apostles. Don’t we all feel like this at
some point in our life but the same God that died for the sins of Paul, died
for our sins too!
1 Corinthians 16
Paul seems to be clearing up some
questions the church members had regarding offerings and the importance of
helping the needy. In this chapter we
learn the churches role in having a set time to collect and how to decide how
the money will be used and as individuals it states we should have our
offerings in order before coming to church so that we may pray about it and be
sure to give as much as we can—those who have more, give more. He mentions
again the importance of doing all these things for love. In chapter 16:13-14 he writes ‘stand firm in
the faith; be courageous; be strong. 14 Do
everything in love’.
